Job interview offer at the Home Office (near Cessnock station)

Hey r/glasgow

Got a job interview at the Home Office coming up (the offices near Cessnock station on Brand Street). Has anyone here worked there or have any insights about what its like to work there?

I’m familiar with Glasgow so I know the area well enough, more interested in office culture, work-life balance, job progression/stability etc.

For privacy reasons, I don’t want to mention my potential future job role

Would be really grateful for any help 🙂

  1. Depending what directorate you are going for I’d say that IE and Border Force are good if you are looking for law enforcement experience, especially if you fancy a career in the likes of the NCA, HMRC etc. If it’s more a decision maker role I’d say climb the grade ladder get involved, go on secondment /project work and see where you end up!

  2. Are you a cunt? Then yes, you’ve got the job. If not, then don’t even bother.

In all seriousness, unless you really want the job or are desperate, I urge you not to bother. I hate to be so blunt about it, but I’ve never met such an incompetent bunch of twats in my life. I’ve spent the last 3 months trying to get my American girlfriend to stay here permanently. Tried to go to court because we lost our initial application due to a small error and they didn’t even look at our case, hence resulting on us being on the float list for our appeal. As a result, we weren’t guaranteed a judge to look at our appeal. The only judge who could see us went home early resulting in us missing our appeal. Now we won’t be seen til the new year at the earliest thanks to the home office not looking at our fucking appeal.

Next day the home office was supposed to schedule us an appointment the next morning to give evidence to the judge about our appeal…. nope they didn’t do that. This was the only opportunity for my girlfriends parents to give evidence (they flew in from America) and they ducked us over because they didn’t make us an appointment.

Now, their latest line has been to argue that I’m not settled here in the UK. I’ve lived here since the late 90’s and have an Irish passport – the fuckwit from the home office is arguing that I dont have the right to settle here. This is despite our lawyer printing out the page from the home office handbook saying that Irish residents are classed as settled residents. This fuckwit still doesn’t believe that.

Honestly, maybe it’s not helpful to you or you don’t want to hear it because I don’t work there. I’m only speaking about my experience with them. It seems like the home office is vastly underfunded, lacks training and in general is incompetent. I urge you to look elsewhere if you can! I’m happy to discuss over PM if you wish. This is my experience from the home office representatives from Cessnock.

  3. In my experience they are disgusting racists who exist purely to try and claim that asylum seekers fleeing war, rape and terror are somehow all liars attempting to fleece benefits off the UK government. An awful place but if you are a snivelling little grotbag who got bullied at school you will probably fit right in.
